Rose Petals and Summer Berries: A Guide to Wildstreak's Australian Rosé Gin

Posted by Wildstreak Distillery on

If you think all gin tastes the same, Australian Rosé Gin from Wildstreak Distillery might change your mind. Blending soft rose petals with ripe summer berries, this Hunter Valley spirit takes the classic juniper base in a completely different direction. At 37% ABV, it sits a touch lighter than a traditional dry gin, making it one of the most approachable spirits on the shelf.

Here is what makes it different, how to serve it, and why it pairs beautifully with more than you might expect.

What Is Rosé Gin?

Rosé gin is a style that infuses traditional gin botanicals with floral and berry elements. Rather than relying purely on juniper and citrus, rosé gins bring in ingredients like rose petals, hibiscus, strawberries, or raspberries. The result is a gin with a naturally pink hue, a softer nose, and a flavour profile that leans more toward delicate florals and fruit than the sharp, piney character of a classic dry.

It is not a flavoured vodka or a pre-mixed drink. Rosé gin is a proper gin, distilled with a juniper base and then layered with botanicals that shift the balance toward something gentler and more aromatic.

Tasting Notes: Rose Petals and Summer Berries

Wildstreak's Australian Rosé Gin is inspired by the vibrant beauty of Australian summers. The botanical blend centres on two key flavours:

  • Rose petals: soft, fragrant, and floral without being perfumy. They give the gin its signature pink colour and a gentle sweetness on the nose.
  • Summer berries: ripe and rounded, adding a fruity depth that balances the juniper and creates a smooth, easy finish.

The overall character is harmonious and versatile. You will notice the gin's botanical backbone on first sip, but the rose and berry notes open up as it warms, making it equally enjoyable neat, on ice, or in a cocktail.

Three Ways to Serve Australian Rosé Gin

The Pink G&T: the simplest and most popular serve. Pour 30mL of Rosé Gin over ice, top with premium tonic water, and garnish with a few fresh raspberries or a slice of pink grapefruit. The tonic lifts the berry notes and lets the rose come through beautifully.

Rosé Gin Spritz: for something lighter, combine 30mL of Rosé Gin with 60mL of sparkling wine and a splash of soda water in a large wine glass over ice. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint. It works wonderfully as a pre-dinner drink and sits perfectly in the space between a cocktail and a glass of wine.

Winter Berry Warmer: rosé gin is not just for summer. Warm 150mL of apple juice with a cinnamon stick and two cloves. Pour into a mug, add 30mL of Rosé Gin, and stir. The spice and warm apple bring out the berry notes while the rose adds a subtle floral lift. A cosy alternative to mulled wine on a cold Hunter Valley evening.

How It Compares to the Wildstreak Range

Wildstreak Distillery makes three signature gins, each with its own character. Tasting them side by side is one of the best ways to understand how botanicals shape a spirit.

  • Classic Dry Gin ($75, 40% ABV): a robust juniper base with aromatic botanicals. The most traditional of the three, built for martinis and classic G&Ts.
  • Australian Dry Gin ($75, 40% ABV): locally sourced citrus and lemon myrtle, with grapefruit, lime, tangelos, and creamy macadamia. Bright and distinctly Australian.
  • Australian Rosé Gin ($75, 37% ABV): rose petals and summer berries for a softer, more floral profile. The most approachable of the three.

If you cannot decide, the Wildstreak Gin 3 Pack ($199, save $26) includes all three, making it a great way to explore the full range or give as a gift.

Food Pairings

Rosé gin's softer profile opens up pairing possibilities that heavier gins struggle with. Here are a few combinations worth trying:

  • Cheese: creamy brie or camembert. The berry notes complement the richness of the cheese, while the rose lifts any heaviness.
  • Seafood: poached prawns or smoked salmon on blinis. The gin's lighter ABV and floral character work with delicate seafood rather than overpowering it.
  • Dessert: raspberry sorbet, strawberry tart, or a simple pavlova. The berry-to-berry pairing is natural and elegant.
  • Charcuterie: prosciutto with fresh figs. The saltiness of the cured meat plays off the gin's sweetness beautifully.

At the cellar door, you can taste the Rosé Gin alongside the full Wildstreak spirits range, paired with dishes from Wildstreak Kitchen. The kitchen serves lunch Wednesday to Sunday, and the combination of a Rosé Gin tasting with a leisurely lunch is one of the best ways to spend an afternoon in the Hunter Valley.
